It looks like some programmers got their hands on a pre-release version of the HTC Touch Diamond 2 and have put all the new applications up for download for the Touch Diamond! If you don’t mind risking your handset (downloading any non-official files is always a risk), you can check out the new calculator, social networking apps, Opera 9.5, the new QuickGPS, the Diamond 2 keyboard (in several versions), the new email wizard, and more. All you have to do is download the cab files and install them to see all the new gizmos the Touch Diamond 2 will have.

Looking for some incredibly sexy images of the HTC Dream as it’s been released in the land down under? Well, Optus’ handset looks incredible in the images hosted over at Engadget. There’s not a lot that’s special or unique about the Australian version of the Dream, but these are some of the most unique (dare we even say romantic?) shots of a cell phone we’ve ever seen. Check them out and prepare to fall in love with the Dream all over again.

HTC recently showed off a few of the new 2009 smartphones at CEBIT, the world’s largest computer expo that was held in Germany from March 3 to March 8 (and CEBIT stands for, well, something German that translates to Centre of Office and Information Technology). Among the devices in attendance was the HTC Touch Diamond 2. Attendees actually got their hands on the Diamond 2, while they had to make do with brochures and images of the Touch Pro 2. Check out the images for a look at HTC’s pavilion and some of the phones they were showing off.

Verizon has finally gotten around to releasing its own particular version of the HTC Touch Diamond, although at this point they’re really quite late to the party since the Touch Diamond 2 is scheduled for release in just a few months. However, if you’re stuck with a Verizon contract and have been waiting to grab the Touch Diamond, you finally can. It will feature a Qualcomm 7500A processor that runs at 528 Mhz, plus 256 MB of ROM and 128 MB of RAM. It will also include a MicroSD card slot for extra memory.

HTC had the Magic lined up for an April release in Germany, but that may not be possible due to a new lawsuit. The company IPCom has filed a lawsuit against HTC for a number of patents regarding UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System, a 3G technology). What’s interesting is that IPCom also has a pending lawsuit against Nokia over the same patents. Legal experts at the Mannheim court have ruled that some violation of the patents is taking place, which means if HTC can’t negotiate a deal of some sort, the Magic and other HTC devices will be put on hold in Germany. We will keep you updated on this legal battle as new developments take place.

The FCC has recently approved a handset codenamed TOPA100, which sounds very much like the HTC Topaz, the device that was finally announced as the Touch Diamond 2 at the recent Mobile World Conference. However, what the FCC saw was the European version of the handset, not the U.S. version. That one is still in the works, but AT&T has stated that they will eventually release the device in the U.S., although it won’t be during the second quarter (the release timeframe for the European version).

Well, it’s better late than never. HTC has just released the Touch Diamond in South Korea. Even though it’s ten months old and the Touch Diamond 2 is already in the works, SK Telecom has decided to release the device anyway. The phone will face some stiff competition from similar devices that were released months ago. That doesn’t bode well for the Diamond—when the HTC Touch Dual was released in South Korea months after it appeared in Europe, it didn’t sell nearly as well as hoped.

If you’re a fan of the HTC Maple and live in the United States, you’ll be glad to know that the device has just received its Bluetooth SIG certification. That means it’s one step closer to appearing in T-Mobile outlets around the country. The Maple, which will run Windows Mobile, is seen by many to be an upgrade to the T-Mobile Dash. It will feature many of HTC’s new innovations, including the Inner Circle, a new feature that is designed to make it easier to communicate with others.
