HTC Starts Distancing itself from Qualcomm

Qualcomm has become a name almost synonymous with slow chips lately, and it looks like HTC has decided being associated with them is bad for business. A Digitimes article discusses HTC’s 10 new smartphones that are on the 2009 lineup, and unlike the 2008 list, not all of these phones will use Qualcomm chipsets. Some, instead, will feature Ericsson’s Mobile Platform. Since Ericsson produces some of the smallest 3.5G chipsets around, this can only lead to more teeny tiny phones. Rumors tell of Qualcomm’s rush to handle any and all issues regarding their chips, but it looks like for now, HTC is looking at alternative routes just in case the problems can’t be solved.
