Vodafone and HTC have announced that the European release date for the HTC Magic will be May 5th, and pre-orders for the device are now available from Vodafone’s website. The price? Well, that’s the awesome part! IF you go with a monthly plan that costs £30 or more, the mobile device is completely free! How many times has a brand new device hit the market and immediately been available for free? Not very often, we think. If you live in Europe and have been contemplating a switch to Vodafone (or want to change your plan), now’s the time to do it.

The 2009 Taiwan Excellence Gold Award winners were announced on April 17 by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council. The gala ceremony was held in Taipei and was hosted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The award honors products that show value created by innovative thought. HTC picked up an award for the design of the HTC Touch Diamond, a product that has become popular with customers around the world and shows how Taiwan companies have made their product designs more sophisticated over the years. HTC was one of only eight companies to receive an award at the event.

HTC is always looking for ways to improve their devices, and the HTC MAX 4G looks like it will be another first for the world: HTC has stated that the MAX 4G will be the world’s first phone to integrate WiMAX and GSM. WiMAX is a very, very fast internet connection that would allow for incredibly quick download times, while GSM is the main piece of technology that allows users to stay connected to the world. The MAX 4G is also rumored to max out a number of other stats, including featuring a huge amount of on-board memory and operating speed. It’s also going to look incredible and feature many contours and straight lines. What else do we know about the HTC MAX 4G? Not a lot at this time, but we’ll keep you updated.

Well, if you’re looking for an unlocked HTC Touch Pro 2 or an unlocked HTC Touch Diamond 2, the good news is that they’re on their way around the world. However, there’s some bad news—they are not cheap. If you want to grab a Touch Pro 2, it’s going to cost you about $887 dollars U.S (around 600 pounds). If you want the Touch Diamond 2, the price tag is a bit less—$726 (490 pounds). These prices are based on the prices of the unlocked devices in Singapore, so they’re likely to be a bit different. If those prices don’t set well, you’ll just have to wait until the branded phones are available from carriers.

If you need some late night reading, why not pop over to the XDA Developers site and download an advance copy of the North American HTC Touch Diamond 2 manual. While it’s not quite as fun as having the actual Touch Diamond 2 in your hands, it can be quite interesting in learning all about the device. After going cover to cover with this manual, once you actually get your hands on a Touch Diamond 2, you’ll be able to use it like you’ve had it for years. Just don’t get too much drool on your computer while you’re reading the manual…it’s not good for the keyboard.

Are you waiting to get your hands on the HTC G1 but just don’t want to spend the money? Well, here’s the good news. United States carrier T-Mobile has dropped the price down to $79 if you’re a Costco warehouse club member. This is cheaper than the $97 that Amazon is offering for those who are willing to commit to a two year contract. Of course, with the G2/Magic on the way, why shouldn’t the price of the original Android phone start dropping? If you don’t have a G1 and would love to see what all this Android fuss is about, now’s the time to update.

We’ve heard rumors that the HTC S522 was going to be a T-Mobile device, and it looks like that’s true. The FCC just got their hands on the device, codenamed MAPL100, or Maple. From the specs they have, it’s going to feature 3G on the AWS band, making it completely compatible with the HSPA network. Will it have HTC’s cool Inner Circle ability? That’s the big question, and so far, there’s no answer. HTC has said that they plan on releasing an unbranded version of the S522 in the United States, so either way, T-Mobile isn’t going to have the market cornered on this device.

We’ve been waiting for it for several months, and now it’s here: the unlocked, unbranded HTC Touch Diamond 2 has finally started to appear on retailer websites. This unlocked phone is available around the world, but stock is limited. One UK store, for example, says they only received ten unlocked Touch Diamond 2s. The price is £449.99, or about $672 for those of you in the states. If you want to get your hands on one of these unbranded handsets, it looks like you better get a move on. With limited quantities, they’re certainly going to be going fast.
