Tired of the plain, boring taskbar on your HTC Touch Pro or your HTC Fuze? Well, you can turn to any of the third party programs and applications that allow you to change the icons on the taskbar into something a little more vibrant, or you can download a new .cab file that has been posted by a member of the XDA-Developers forum. Note, though, that the file will only work on VGA smartphones, not QVGA ones.

Verizon users bombarded the company about the unreasonable lockdown they’d put on the HTC Touch Pro’s GPS that basically only allowed specific programs to access the device’s GPS functions. Well, it looks like all that complaining has paid off: the company has recently announced that they will unlock the GPS on the Touch Pro and several other smart phones next year, but they haven’t given us an exact date yet. In the meantime, a hacker at PPCGeeks has come up with a way to work around Verizon’s lock. If you want to release your Touch Pro’s full GPS potential, check out the link provided at WMPoweruser or head over the PPCGeeks.

The Boy Genius Report has turned up an image of an HTC Touch Pro emulating the BlackBerry operating system and some of its applications. There’s some doubt as to whether or not the image is legitimate—one should never underestimate the powers of PhotoShop, after all—but if it is, it may mean a whole new world of possibilities. The images show an HTC Touch Pro running the BlackBerry Application Suite, something many would find pretty, well, sweet. There’s no HTML browser, though, and the feature set may be kind of…unique, to say the least. However, even if these images are true, the suite is probably still being beta tested, so who knows what we may see once the final thing is done…if it’s even true.

Want a HTC Sprint Touch Pro but don’t want to pay full price for it? Well, if you hurry, you can score a Touch Pro from Best Buy for only $199. However, the sale ends on December 20, so you don’t have much time. The $199 price tag is also dependent upon signing a two year contract, but to get a Touch Pro at that price may be worth it. You’ll save $100 right away since the mobile device usually sells for $299 with the two year commitment. If you still have someone on your holiday list to shop for, this might be the perfect gift.

The Telus HTC Touch Pro has gone live on Best Buy’s Canada website, so if you’ve been waiting to pick up the mobile, you still have time to grab it before the holiday season. We’ve heard that Telus was going to launch their own version of the Touch Pro in Canada, but we hadn’t heard anything about a release date. From the looks of the Best Buy website, though, it looks like it will be available soon. If you don’t mind a three year contract, the phone is yours for $299.99, although some rumors have it clocking in at $199.99. Either way, if you don’t want to chain yourself down with a contract, the Telus HTC Touch Pro is $649.99.

Back some time ago, the news broke that some HTC mobile devices, specifically the HTC Touch Diamond and the Touch Pro, did not feature hardware video acceleration. While there hasn’t been much talk about the issue since HTC promised to fix the issue, now that the two phones are live, it looks like HTC has both kept and broken that promise.

You’ve got to admit that the HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro have unique looks—the sharper edges and the multifaceted back were major design changes from HTC’s other smart phones. Of course, it turns out that HTC didn’t actually design the Diamond or the Pro. Instead, they contracted One & Co., a design firm located in San Francisco. Well, now HTC has gone one step further: they’ve recently purchased One & Co. While the terms of the buyout haven’t been made public, they have announced that One & Co. will keep its name and its current list of clients.

Verizon is set to launch the Touch Pro on November 24, giving many something to be thankful about. Don’t expect to pick up this little gem for anything less than $350, though—and that’s after the $70 mail-in rebate! Even with a two-year contract, you’re still looking at a starting price of $419.99. The Touch Pro certainly isn’t the cheapest smart phone around, but at least Verizon has one. T-Mobile is still missing its HTC phone, although they do have some nice alternatives.
