The HTC Touch Diamond 2 hasn’t been out very long, but for those of you who happen to have the Asian version of the device, there’s already a ROM upgrade. HTC recently released this major update that fixes issues involving the radio and some very important parts of the software that allow the phone to actually make calls. As with all of HTCs major ROMs, it’s completely free, but again, it’s only for those of you who have the Asian version. Don’t try installing it on any other version of the HTC Touch Diamond 2!

T-Mobile has some pretty ambitious plans for Android handsets in 2009, it sounds like. The CTO of the company, Cole Brodman, recently mentioned that they have a number of Android devices they plan on launching. This obviously includes the HTC myTouch 3G and the G1 v2, the revamped version of last year’s HTC G1. But is T-Mobile going to start launching non-HTC Android handsets? Perhaps. The most likely candidate is the Samsung Houdini, although there’s nothing to confirm that or anything else. What will T-Mobile deliver, and when? We can only wait for more information.

For some time, T-Mobile has listed the HTC Wing on its website. However, it’s no longer listed now. With the upcoming launch of the HTC Touch Pro 2, the myTouch 3G, the Dash 3G, and the previous release of the Shadow and the Dash, it appears that there’s no room in the T-Mobile world for the Wing. The Wing runs Windows Mobile but, while being a fairly solid handset, didn’t really have anything special or different from other handsets. Still, if you had your heart set on the Wing, you’ll be a bit saddened by the news.

Japan has never had an Android device, but all that is about to change when NTT DoCoMo released the HT-03A, their name for the HTC Magic. The device will go head to head with the powerful phones already on the market in Japan, but it will be the only one running Android for now. To make the HT-03A even more popular, it has been submitted to the US FCC, meaning it will have global roaming features for those who do a lot of traveling. The HT-03A may need every bit of an edge that it can get since many other Android phones are set to be released in Japan in 2009.

Vodafone stores and the Phones 4u Call Centres have both reported excellent sells of the HTC Magic. While stores have sold a number of handsets since its release on May 1, the majority have actually come from the call centres, which has been somewhat surprising to Vodafone employees. As it turns out, one call centre employee noted that about three out of every eight or so orders was for a HTC Magic. While customers are certainly interested in looking at the device in the stores, they so far aren’t buying as many of them. One reason for this may be the fact that customers get a discount if they purchase a contract online.

If you’re a Canadian and you’ve been waiting to get your hands on a HTC Dream or a HTC Magic, then head over to the nearest Rogers Wireless. They’ve recently announced that both handsets will be available from the carrier. The HTC Dream, we’re expecting, will be available on June 2nd. As for the HTC Magic, it will most likely appear sometime in June as well, perhaps on the same date. Either way, it looks like June will be a banner month for HTC in Canada, although it would be nice to have some pricing information. Perhaps Rogers will be a little more forthcoming with information soon.

It looks like T-Mobile US has a few interesting surprises for those looking to get their hands on the HTC T-Mobile MyTouch 3G. It won’t be a simple reissue of the HTC Magic. Instead, T-Mobile will offer a few different color options and a five megapixel camera instead of the Sapphire’s 3.2 one. There could very well be some other upgrades under the hood as well, but the company hasn’t released anything about them yet. The device will be offered through Walmart for $179 with a two year contract, and everything is pointing to a July release.

Qualcomm has become a name almost synonymous with slow chips lately, and it looks like HTC has decided being associated with them is bad for business. A Digitimes article discusses HTC’s 10 new smartphones that are on the 2009 lineup, and unlike the 2008 list, not all of these phones will use Qualcomm chipsets. Some, instead, will feature Ericsson’s Mobile Platform. Since Ericsson produces some of the smallest 3.5G chipsets around, this can only lead to more teeny tiny phones. Rumors tell of Qualcomm’s rush to handle any and all issues regarding their chips, but it looks like for now, HTC is looking at alternative routes just in case the problems can’t be solved.
