How Many G1s Will They Sell?

There are many rumors out there about how many T-Mobile G1s have sold and how many are expected to sell, but most of these are just people spouting off random numbers.  However, Peter Chou, the co-founder of HTC itself, has finally thrown out his own set of numbers.  In an internet, Chou said he’s expecting HTC to sell over 600,000 G1s in 2008 (i.e., in only a couple of months) and that he’s looking forward to even higher numbers in 2009.  However, like the smart businessman he is, Chou also stated that HTC isn’t basing its entire existence on the G1, so while it’s certainly possible the phone will sell millions, they’re financially prepared for it to be a failure, too.  Yeah, like that will happen!  Who isn’t looking forward to getting their hands on this hot little phone with full keyboard?

Few people outside the developing companies of Google and HTC had any idea just how long the two companies have been working on their Android phone until HTC revealed exactly how much time has been invested in this phone. Their Chief Marketing Officer made mention of beginning talks with Google almost five years ago. That was before HTC had even acquired Android! The Android team has been working diligently for the past three years to create the G1, but all signs point to it being worth the wait. Plus, if it going like every other piece of technology has, once the initial Android phone is completed, the improvements and additions will take much less time.

HTC hosted a special event today to announce the upcoming release of the new HTC Touch Diamond. The HTC Touch Diamond is a radical shift from the original Touch offering a new 3-D user interface that pits it directly against the iPhone. The new HTC Touch Diamond will be available in June in Europe, with US customers having to wait until the second half of 2008.
