The phone fanatics over at Android Central have posted a video reviewing AT&T’s version of the HTC Fuze. While many compare the features of the Fuze and the G1 to the iPhone, this review talks more about how Android compares to Windows Mobile, which is an interesting comparison.
Overall, the Android Central reviewers found TouchFlo 3D both visually well done and useful. One of the coolest things they mention is something that’s usually glossed over in reviews: the stylus is magnetic and clips right onto the Fuze. That’s a very nice feature since those things are so easy to lose, but attaching them with a string is so annoying. Of course, you don’t really need to use the stylus to use the Fuze, but it is nice to have.

Several days ago I posted a blog about how a nifty little program would allow the HTC G1 to accept multi-touch input. Well, thanks to the fact that Android is an open source platform, I’ve got another neat little program to share with everyone. A developer has created an auto-rotation program for the G1 that rotates the screen when you turn the G1. The rotation works very well and works on everything—applications, the home screen, the settings screens, etc. It picks up quickly on the fact that you’ve turned the phone and smoothly rotates the display as needed. It’s not really a necessary piece of software, but it is a very neat little trick.

In addition to the auto-rotate application, there are a number of other HTC Fuze registry hacks you can download. The folks over at Pocket Hacks have compiled a long list of different hacks, some of which are designed to make TouchFlo 3D run faster and more smoothly. You can change your file cache size, turn off the start up animation and sound, and even enable a burst photo mode on the camera. The list of hacks also lists ones that have been proven to not work, which is good to know. If you’re looking for ways to tweak your Fuze, check out this list. Most of these hacks work behind the scenes to make the device work a bit better.

The HTC Touch Pro is here, and the boys over at the Boy Genius Report have already posted their first impressions of this new mobile device. The Verizon version is a bit different from the HTC Touch Pro sold by Sprint, AT&T, and Alltel. For example, it has a slightly different keyboard layout that may take a little getting used to. The up arrow key is actually between two letters, and the backspace is under the “p” instead of above it like it is on most keyboards.
The Report also lists some of the downsides to the HTC Touch Pro, including the fact that it only has 192 MB of RAM, almost half of which is taken up by the operating system and another good chuck of which is used by TouchFlo. After all is said and done, you have about 45 MB left for actual programs and such. While not a huge downside, that’s still something to consider if you run a lot of applications on your mobile devices.

Thought you were going to be one of the first to have Verizon’s version of the HTC Touch Pro? Well, if you don’t already have it, you may end up waiting a bit. Verizon’s website is already showing the Touch Pro to be out of stock, although, oddly enough, some zip codes actually show it as available. We’re not sure exactly what the deal with that is, but it appears that the phone is selling incredibly well and that many users may have to wait a bit before getting their hands on it. In the meantime, you can check out several different reviews of the phone to see if it has everything you need.

HTC has become one of the biggest names in mobile devices, and few seem to rival their smart phones (the newest Blackberry models and the iPhone are about their only competition). However, starting in 2009, HTC will have a new rival: ASUS is planning to launch ten different mobile devices next year, all of which are aimed at being serious competition of HTC’s devices. According to rumors, most of them will feature 3G and will have a touch screen interface. We’ve even heard that several of them may even run Android as their operating systems. How will this affect HTC? Only time will tell how they handle the new competition.

HTC is shipping their phones everywhere: Europe, Russia, the US, and they recently announced that they were moving HTC devices into the Philippians. Well, now they’ve decided to move into the frigid north and deliver some HTC handsets to the Nordic countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland, in case you were wondering which countries those were). These devices will, according to one of HTCs representatives, be running the new Google Android operating system, and they will be released simultaneously in the five countries. While HTC didn’t give many details as to which products they would be shipping to the north next summer, we’re sure we will hear more before long.

You’d think that with the T-Mobile G1 now available in three different colors (bronze, black, and the new white), every user would find themselves happy with one of the colors. But no, apparently not. Now the G1 and the Blackberry Bold are available in multiple colors from Colorware. For the T-Mobile G1, you can get your current G1 colorized for $150, or you can order a brand new G1 in any of the available colors for $725. The Blackberry Bold is a little cheaper: $139 to get your own customized and $674 for a new one.
Colorware offers several different colors for the HTC G1, including pink, blue, and orange. You can even mix and match these colors. You can put a pink keyboard with blue cover, a totally orange phone, or any other combination you can think of.

Earlier this month, we reported that HTC and T-Mobile were having some issues with their white version of the G1 and that it looked like the phone wouldn’t be available until sometime in December. However, someone at HTC must have solved whatever the difficulty was, because T-Mobile added the white G1 to its website on November 25. The G1 now comes in three colors: white, bronze, and black.
But before you go running out to trade in your darker HTC device, you should know that the rumors you might have heard about new hardware or software changes to the white version of the G1 are completely false. There’s nothing different between any of the three colored phones. The price is the same as well: $399.99 with no contract and $179.99 with a two-year contract.
